    Dune House

In the desert of Rajasthan, where it rains four times in a year, they build paithans – paved bowls with a well on the centre, to catch enough rain water to last the whole year. This holiday home is buried under the crest of the sand dune where a paithan has been built, with the well in the traditional style.  Like the wise creatures of the desert you can stay sheltered in your protected lair during the day when the sun is burning the earth above, and at night you can come up to the terrace to watch the stars  and horizon lit by a silver moon, the magic happens at dawn and in the twilight of sunset. In the summer, vines of gourd and kakdi grow over the wire net casting a dappled shadow over the terrace, and in winter being seasonal trees they would shed their leaves to let the roof bask on the sun to store warmth for the lair below.
