Khirki Village - Study and Design Proposal

The study and proposal for Khirki village was commissioned by Delhi Urban Arts Commission in preparation for the Master Plan for Delhi 2001-21 in collaboration with TVB School of Habitat Studies in 2007. The proposal develops a strategic approach for change and regeneration of urban villages like Khirki within the broader planning of the city. The inherited character of the built form and open space structure with its rich meshing of uses is retained. Development guidelines allow for progressive regeneration and improvement while maintaining the inherited urban character. The guidelines enable the village citizens to take advantage of and respond to the development of the surrounding city. The plan for access routes, social infrastructure and community spaces provides the framework that integrates the village with the city while reinforcing and expressing its identity.
