The Tata Tiscon Raise Competition 2012 was an initiative to design  Future Flexible Homes in India 2020. To meet the challenge, a way of building was established that served broader needs of many kinds of middle class homes . The proposal integrated Nine Key Concepts that ensured social, economic and environmental sustainability, which conceptually then came to be called  ‘Nine Moons’. The size and dimensions of the square grid module of each home is determined by the space use patterns of the emerging lifestyles of the Indian urban middle class. Flat slab construction (Bubble deck slab construction) and dimensional co-ordinates of sub-components allow flexibility to meet family needs. The system can be built to ground + 3 storeys and basement and it can be extended horizontally to increase accommodation size with a choice of expanding components like external enclosure, internal dividers, equipments and accessories. The design is integrated with low carbon living by  re-using , re-cycling of material, use of solar PV , water heating  and use of passive techniques minimising dependence on air conditioning.
